A keyway is a groove in an object, often a shaft or gear, to secure a key and thus transfer movement from one object to another. Keyways can be created in various ways, for example by CNC milling, broaching, or spark machining.

CNC stands for Computer Numerical Control. This term is used for computer-controlled machines, such as CNC lathes and CNC milling machines. The machines are programmed by an operator. A computer controls and operates the machine's tools for processing products, mainly by machining metals and plastics.

CNC milling is a process in which the material is secured in the milling machine and the tool moves along the material. The milling machine removes material from the workpiece using a milling cutter. In addition to milling metals, PTB Machinefabriek's milling machines can also be used to process plastic products.

CNC turning is a machining technique used in metalworking and machining in which a metal or plastic workpiece rotates and a lathe performs a cutting motion with a chisel. PTB uses modern lathes for this purpose, which can also be used for milling operations.
